Overall aim of this chapter: to give the readers (mainly trainers and their practice managers) some pros and cons of taking on multiple trainees in their practices. What's been the experience so far where this has been done? What do trainers and trainees in such practices say about it? What are the essential ingredients and key principles/points to make multiple trainee training work effectively? Remember to offer practical advice around any principles you mention. Jo Buchanan has done some research on this (Deputy Director Y&H Deanery).
- How many can one trainer supervise?
- Taking on more than one trainee: implications for the training scheme, the practice, the trainer, the trainee (?table of pros and cons) - benefits vs costs
- Implications if practices are doing other forms of training eg FY doctors, nurse practitioners, medical students
- What if some of the trainees are part time?
- Conclusions from Jo Buchanon's research - action points for the scheme organisers, the trainer, the practice and the trainee
- Anything else you can think of
