Overall aim of this chapter: to give the reader (who will often be either unfamiliar or a novice in terms of working with simulators) how to use them effectively. We need to concentrate on the practical tips for getting the most out of simulations - and by practical I mean both organisational, process and content aspects. Something about the different ways in which one can facilitate a simulation session. Something also about how to prevent them from becoming dysfunctional and remedies when they do.
- Why work with simulators, why just not 'teach'?; evidence for
- Pros and cons of setting up simulation training sessions (cost, organisation vs educational impact etc)
- How to write up an instruction facilitator sheet, an instruction simulator sheet and a trainee simulator sheet; give an example
- Guidance for facilitating simulator sessions
- Ways of stopping the simulation to pause and reflect and then carry on (eg go through whole simulation, stop and start etc.)
