Overall aim of this chapter: to give the reader (mainly Directors, Deputys, Associates, Tutors, TPDs and trainers) some sort of idea of what the Deanery is about. About the numerous roles and responsibilities of the Deanery. How we must see them as cogs in the bigger educational machine. How we must not treat them as bosses but see them as equal colleagues. In addition, include something to help new Directors, Deputys and Associate Postgraduate Deans on how to create an organisational ethos where everyone (and by that I mean people outside the Deanery) works collaboratively, constructively and happily together. The overall aim foster a sense of loyalty and pride in belonging to a Deanery where every person is valued. Clearly this means avoiding a top down approach but one might want to discuss when such an approach might actually be valid.A mind map showing the heirar#chical structure common to most Deaneries
- The mission of most Deaneries: their purpose
- The role of the Director
- The role of the Deputy Director
- The role of the Associate Postgraduate Deans (APDs)
- GP Tutors (in some Deaneries)
- Something about working with Deaneries and not viewing them as a remote establishment high up on the ladder. ('everyone of us is an equally important cogwheel necessary for the whole machine to function')
